A wild leopard is causing havoc in the north India city of Meerut.

First discovered in an empty ward of a hospital, the big cat then broke into a local movie theater and apartment block.

Despite being cornered by wildlife workers, and hit with a tranquilizer dart, the leopard managed to escape and is still on the loose.

“Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to track the leopard down. We have launched a massive hunt for the beast,” a district magistrate told Agence France-Presse.

Until the ferocious feline is caught, authorities have closed schools and are urging markets to do the same in the city located 40 miles north east of the capital of New Delhi.
