LOS ANGELES — A re-release of “The Lion King” took the box-office crown. A 3-D version of the wildly popular 1994 Disney animated musical earned a surprising $29.3 million in its first weekend. The original made more than $40 million when it opened.
Last week’s No. 1 movie, “Contagion,” dropped to runner-up in its second weekend, with $14.5 million.
