Tim Kaine and Mike Pence went head-to-head in the first and only vice presidential debate tonight.
The showdown between the Virginia senator and the Indiana governor may not be as contested as last week’s presidential debate — but there was still a lot at stake for each candidate.
Pence reportedly planned to divert the media conversation for Donald Trump, who has been the center of a bad news cycle since he squared off with Hillary Clinton. Kaine hoped to save face for Clinton and keep her from losing a slight lead in national polls.
The event was moderated by CBS anchor Elaine Quijano at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.

Moderator is great (ACTUAL ISSUES!). Pence is terrific. Kaine reminds me of Paul Begala: smirking, interrupting and insulting.

Yes, this debate has been a dumpster fire, but the exchanges over faith and abortion in the last 10 minutes were very good

I genuinely can't believe I'm saying this: @timkaine hurt Hillary tonight. Not at all surprised, though, that @GovPenceIN helped Trump.

Kaine strategy--lose debate but quote Trump a lot; Pence strategy--win debate but don't defend Trump
