President Biden addressed the country for the first time since dropping out of the 2024 presidential election.
Biden spoke for about 10 minutes in the Oval Office Wednesday night, saying he reveres being president — “but I love my country more.”
The president endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take his spot on the ticket.
He faced mounting calls from his own party to drop out of the race due to concerns over his disastrous debate performance last month.

Scott Jennings, a Republican political operative and CNN analyst, said that it appeared that President Biden didn’t have much left in the tank during his Oval Office address. “He’s running on fumes,” Jennings said, analyzing the 81-year-old president’s remarks for the network. “Most of this seemed like a stump speech to me,” he argued. “I hope he is OK for the next few months."Biden embraced by family after Oval Office address: photos

Former President Donald Trump slammed President Biden’s White House speech Wednesday, calling it “barely understandable.”
“Crooked Joe Biden’s Oval Office speech was barely understandable, and sooo bad!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“CROOKED JOE BIDEN AND LYIN’ KAMALA HARRIS ARE A GREAT EMBARRASSMENT TO AMERICA — THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A TIME LIKE THIS!” the 78-year-old GOP presidential nominee said in a follow-up post.
First lady Jill Biden posted a note of support for her husband and supporters following the president's Wednesday night address.
To those who never wavered, to those who refused to doubt, to those who always believed, my heart is full of gratitude.

President Biden "celebrated" the end of his re-election campaign Wednesday by having ice cream with White House staff, according to a report.
Biden, 81, shared his favorite treat in the Rose Garden with his aides, CNN reported.
The president's Sunday announcement that he was withdrawing from the race came on National Ice Cream Day.
Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita tweeted out a photo Wednesday of President Biden's Oval Office address playing on one of the TVs aboard the former president's plane -- with Trump standing in front of it.
"On Trump Force One …Hey Joe …You’re Fired!" LaCivita wrote on X, including a photo of a very serious looking Trump.

CNN's Van Jones nearly teared up -- again -- after watching President Biden's Oval Office address Wednesday.
"The kid with the stutter did good," Jones, holding back tears, said of the 81-year-old's speech.
"He fell on his sword," the political analyst said of Biden's decision to end his 2024 re-election bid.
"Most heroes fight to the bitter end. He fell on his sword," Jones reiterated.
"He’s old guy but his heart is still there," he added, noting that some of Biden's proposals, such as Supreme Court reform, are unlikely to go anywhere before his term is up.
President Biden was joined by scandal-scarred first son Hunter Biden and his wife, Melisa Cohen, just out of frame of his televised speech.

The two were sitting in chairs along the wall of the Oval Office, watching the president give his remarks.
Biden's wife, Jill, also sat nearby during the address.
Biden concluded his Oval Office speech in just over 10 minutes of speaking.
He began his address at 8:02 p.m. and finished at 8:13 p.m.
President Biden posted on X following his Oval Office speech on Wednesday night, doubling down on the statements he made during his address.
"I will keep defending our personal freedoms and our civil rights — from the right to vote to the right to choose," Biden posted.

I will keep calling out hate and extremism, and make it clear there is no place in America for political violence—or for any violence—ever.
I will keep speaking out…

During his roughly 10-minute address, President Biden appeared more coherent and rested than he has in weeks, speaking clearly while reading from a teleprompter.
He appeared unusually tan, with his white hair slicked back and into place.
President Biden again called for voters to choose Vice President Kamala Harris to be his party replacement.
"I'd like to thank our great vice president, Kamala Harris. She experienced. She's tough, she's capable," Biden said.
"She's been an incredible partner to me and the leader for our country. Now the choice is up to you, the American people. You make that choice."
He first endorsed her after dropping out on Sunday.
