The shooting, which took place during Brown’s final exam week, has left the school on lockdown.

1 still critical after Brown shooting, 7 stable

One victim of the Brown shooting remains in critical condition, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said Sunday morning.

Smiley revealed that seven of the wounded victims have been upgraded to stable condition, and one was released from the hospital.

The two victims who were killed in the shooting were both confirmed to be Brown students.

Brown University's shelter-in-place order remained in effect early Sunday as police hunt for the gunman who shot and killed two students.

"While the shelter in place order remains in effect, students who are in residence halls should remain there. Sheltering in place at this stage means staying indoors. Students in off-campus residences are advised to remain there until the lockdown is lifted," Brown President Christina H. Paxson said.

"Providence Police have advised that our campus must remain on lockdown. It is an active police scene, and the priority is to keep everyone safe."

Brown University student released from hospital, 7 others critical

Brown University President Christina H. Paxson revealed that one student of the 9 who were injured during Saturday's shooting has been released from the hospital.

"I can confirm that the nine members of our community who were transported to local hospitals are all students," Paxson said early Sunday.

"And we lost two students to today’s devastating gun violence. Our hearts go out to them. This is a day of tremendous sorrow. No parent or family member should ever have to endure a day like this."

Paxson, who has served as the Ivy League institution's president since 2012, said that six students are in "critical but stable" condition, another student is in stable condition and one is fighting for their lives in critical condition.

Buffalo Bills safe after Brown University shooting -- Patriots 'heartbroken' over tragedy

All Buffalo Bills players and staff were reported safe inside their Rhode Island hotel, located less than two miles from Brown University, where at least two people were killed in a deadly shooting Saturday afternoon.

The Bills, who are scheduled to play the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday, were at a downtown Providence hotel when the shooting broke out just after 4 p.m., the Athletic reported.

Team players, coaches and staff are remaining inside the hotel following the shooting.

The Patriots released a statement in solidarity with the Ivy League school.

"The New England Patriots are heartbroken by the horrific events at Brown University," the team wrote on X. "We extend our deepest sympathies to those affected and their families, and we remain in grateful to the first responders and law enforcement who acted swiftly to protect the students, faculty, staff and the community."

Brown University shooter appeared to be in his 30s: witnesses

While little was known about the shooter who killed two and injured nine at Brown University -- officials said that witnesses told them he appeared to be in his 30s.

He targeted students in a single classroom at the Barus & Holley Engineering at the Providence, Rhode Island school, though it was not clear if he was a student.

It was not clear what exactly students were doing in that classroom, though the building in general had been the site of many final exams Saturday, officials said.

He was caught on video walking on a street outside the school building during his escape. He was wearing all black and witnesses said he could have been wearing a gray camo face mask, the commander added.

Video released by authorities offered a first glimpse at the alleged gunman who killed 2 and injured 9 in a shooting at Brown University on Saturday evening. 

The clip showed the alleged suspect turning a corner after leaving the area where the shooting took place, Providence Police Department Commander Timothy O’Hara said at a late-night press conference.

The gunman calmly walked onto Hope Street in full dark attire. He appeared to be wearing either a hood or a face covering that obscured his face from the cameras, the clip provided by police showed.

The suspected gunman then took a right on Waterman Street, O’Hara said. 

Witnesses also described that he could have been wearing a gray camo face mask, the commander added.

The gunman opened fire in the classroom in the Barus & Holley building, which houses the Ivy League school’s engineering and physics departments.

Brown University President Christina Paxson said she was not certain what the students were doing inside the classroom when shots rang out.

It is unclear how many students were inside the room.

Two of the victims killed in Saturday night's shooting were Brown University students

The two people killed by a crazed gunman on Brown University’s campus Saturday night were students, according to authorities. 

At least eight of those wounded were also students at the Ivy League Rhode Island school, Brown University President Christina Paxson told reporters at a press conference late Saturday night. 

The ninth victim, who authorities said was injured by bullet fragments due to nearby gunfire, has not yet been confirmed to be a student, Paxson added.
