Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards warned residents Monday to batten down the hatches and brace for more turbulent weather as “the worst is yet to come.”
As Tropical Storm Harvey regains strength in the Gulf of Mexico, torrential rains — and their accompanying floods — are expected to drench southern Louisiana on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“In all likelihood, the worst is yet to come for those of us here in Louisiana,” Edwards said.
“It does remain a named tropical storm, and it’s going to drop an awful lot of rain.”
President Donald Trump on Monday issued a federal emergency declaration for Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis and Vermillion parishes in Louisiana.
Of course, Louisianans know ‘cane weather all too well, having gone through Katrina, which killed nearly 2,000 people in late August 2005.
