Lunar National Park: pols
Two congresswomen have launched a bill to turn the moon into a National Historical Park.
The aim of their proposed Apollo Lunar Landing Legacy Act is to protect the areas where US astronauts set foot 40-plus years ago from commercial development.
“I don’t think that there is anything far-fetched about protecting and preserving such irreplaceable items and such a hallowed place,” said Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.).
“As commercial enterprises and foreign nations acquire the ability to land on the moon, it is necessary to protect the Apollo landing sites for posterity,” according to the bill, co-sponsored by Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas).
