French President Emmanuel Macron is canceling at least some of his scheduled events this week because of the coronavirus, aides said Monday.
The officials told Reuters that the president needed the extra time to focus on efforts to stem the virus, which has infected 130 people and killed two in the country — not to mention put the kibosh on its residents’ tradition of greeting each other with a kiss on each cheek and closed the famed Louvre Museum.
“It doesn’t mean the president is self-isolating,” an aide said of Macron’s canceled outings. “This is to make sure he is available to manage the situation.”
Macron’s canceled appearances involved a Jewish group’s annual dinner Tuesday and visit to southwestern France on Wednesday.
