Oh, deer.

A Maine lobster boat netted a bizarre catch about 5 miles offshore Monday — a deer, according to a Facebook post by the vessel’s captain.

The frightened brown and white creature, which had about 2-inch antlers, was spotted off the coast of the town of Harrington drifting even further out to sea when the boat’s stunned crew rescued it, Capt. Ren Dorr wrote.

“Found this little guy 5 miles offshore today drifting farther away from land. Couldn’t let the poor guy suffer and drown so we brought him aboard and sailed him half hour to land and dropped him off on the beach! And sailed back out to haul!” the posting said.

Accompanying photos showed the creature struggling in the middle of the ocean and then huddling in a corner of the craft, warily looking at the crew, after being rescued.

“Now that is a Good News Story… warms my Heart,” commenter Delphine Barnaby wrote.
