Maine mass shooting suspect Robert Card, 40, opened fire inside Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley and Schemengees Bar & Grille, both in Lewiston, Wednesday evening, killing 18 people and wounding at least 13, officials said.

Police surrounded a residence on Meadow Road in Bowdoin Thursday night and announced over a megaphone that they knew Card was inside. They later left the home empty-handed.

So far, sixteen victims who died in the shootings have been identified, plus two who were wounded:

  • Bob Violette, 76, a longtime children’s bowling instructor, was working with a youth league when the shooter walked into the bowling alley
  • Joseph Walker, bar manager at Schemengees Bar & Grille, died trying to stop the gunman, his father told NBC News
  • Tricia Asselin, 53, worked part-time at Just-In-Time Recreation, but was bowling for fun when the shooting took place, her brother told CNN
  • Steven Vozzella, who just got married last year, was at Schemengees bar for a cornhole tournament for deaf adults, his family told ABC
  • Bill Bracket was also gunned down at the bar cornhole tournament, his family told ABC, and was remembered by a friend on Facebook who wrote, “I’ll never forget the laughs I had you in when I was trying to learn some sign language at cornhole.”
  • Bryan MacFarlane, 40, a member of Lewiston’s deaf community, was taking part in the tournament after recently moving back to his native Maine, according to CNN.
  • Michael Deslauriers II and Jason Walker had been bowling with their wives, and their “several young children,” whom the two husbands protected before charging at the gunman, Deslauriers’ father wrote on Facebook
  • Bill Young and his 14-year-old son Aaron were fatally shot at Just-In-Time while out with their bowling league, Bill’s brother told Reuters.
  • Arthur Strout, a 42-year-old father of five, was killed at Schemengees, his father Arthur Barnard told WCVB.
  • Tommy Conrad, 34, was a manager at the bowling alley and is survived by his 9-year-old daughter, WMYW reported.
  • Joshua Seal worked as an American Sign Language interpreter for the Pine Tree Society, his wife, Elizabeth, said on Facebook.
  • Peyton Brewer-Ross, a father of a 2-year-old girl, was killed at Schemengees Bar and Grille, according to a CNN report.
  • Ron Morin was remembered by his family as an upbeat guy — and a common sight at Taboo Hair Design in Lewiston, where his mom has worked for more than years, the Bangor Daily News reported.
  • Maxx Hathaway was killed at Schemengees and was remembered as a “goofy, down to earth person, loved to joke around and always had an uplifting attitude,” his sister wrote on GoFundMe.
  • Wounded: Zoey Hutchinson, 10, who spoke to ABC News the morning after she was grazed by a bullet and took cover with her mother at Just-In-Time bowling alley.
  • Wounded: Justin Karcher, 23, who is on a ventilator in the ICU, where doctors have to “keep resuscitating him” following emergency surgery, his mother told the Washington Post. Four years ago, Karcher witnessed his father die “in front of him,” after being gunned down in a Walmart parking lot, Jessica Karcher said.

Card, of Bowdoin, Maine, is still on the loose, with 8 murder warrants out for his arrest. He should be considered “armed and dangerous,” officials reiterated Thursday during a news briefing, urging anyone who thinks they’ve spotted him not to approach, and to contact police immediately.

At least 13 people were injured in the carnage, officials said at the press conference — though earlier reports had the injured number around 50.

The desperate manhunt for suspected Maine mass shooter Robert Card has extended to Canada as authorities there issued an alert for the “armed and dangerous” trained marksman three days after 18 people were killed and more than a dozen others injured.

The Canada Border Services Agency said it issued the alert to officers along the US-Canada border while working closely with US law enforcement to “ensure the safety and security of Canadians and protect Canada’s borders against any threat or [attempted] legal entry.”

The mayor of a border town in Canada also said he was aware of American authorities at the border “checking people leaving the country” and said Canadian police are “doing the same as we speak,” according to Global News.

St. Stephen Mayor Allan MacEachern put out his own alert to remind residents to be vigilant.

“We’re going to make sure everyone knows: Keep your eyes and ears open for any strange activity,” he told Global News.

Robert Card liked posts that blamed trans community for mass shootings

By Yaron Steinbuch

Suspected Maine mass shooter Robert Card reportedly liked numerous online posts touting anti-trans views -- including ones blaming them for mass shootings.

Card posted as @RobertC20041800 on X, according to Heavy.com, which reviewed his page before it was suspended.

In March, he liked a tweet by Donald Trump Jr. about "the incredible rise of trans/non-binary mass shooters in the last few years," which claimed they were "by far the largest group committing as a percentage of population."

"Maybe, rather than talking about guns we should be talking about lunatics pushing their gender affirming bulls*** on our kids?” read Trump Jr.'s post liked by the man suspected of gunning down 18 and injuring 13 others Wednesday.

He also liked a post by conspiracy theorist Dinesh D'Souza that read: “Ban assault weapons? Well, cars kill more people than guns do. But we blame the drivers," according to Heavy.com.

“We don’t ban large or fast cars. We understand that cars, like guns, don’t act by themselves. The blame lies with the people who operate these mechanical devices. Common sense 101,” the post added.

He also liked a video by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who captioned it: “The trans movement, it turns out, is the mirror image of Christianity, and therefore its natural enemy. People who believe they’re God can’t stand to be reminded that they’re not.”

Card also liked messages attacking President Biden, and reportedly interacted with the accounts of several Republican politicians, including former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan, according to Heavy.com.

He reportedly liked a post by McCarthy, a Republican, that read: “President Biden has already caused record inflation. Now, his reckless refusal to negotiate could lead to a first-ever default. I am prepared to clear my calendar. Mr. President, what are you afraid of?"

Two more victims have been identified following Wednesday's mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine.

Jason Walker was with his friend Michael Deslauriers II and their wives at Just-in-Time Recreation when suspected gunman Robert Card entered and began his rampage.

Deslaurier's father said his son and Walker were killed at the bowling alley, after assuring their wives and kids were safe and charged at the gunman.

"Our deepest condolences to the families of Jason Walker and Mike Deslauriers," the Sabattus Historical Society said in a Facebook post.

"Jason did some amazing work, with Mike's dad for the Sabattus Historical Society by capturing the personal stories of senior citizens in our community which are posted to our YouTube page over the past few years."

"He freely volunteered his time and expertise to our society to capture the history of our town."

Across town, Maxx Hathaway, a stay-at-home father of two, was at Schemengees Bar and Grille playing pool with a friend, when the violence erupted.

Hathaway was killed right after his wife, who is eight months pregnant with their third daughter, had left with their toddler daughter who was getting "fussy," according to the Boston Globe.

He was remembered by his sister, who said his attitude was uplifting and he loved his family.

A former nurse who was inside the Maine bar that was targeted in Wednesday's mass shootings that left 18 dead said she's "one of the lucky ones."

Jennifer Zanca was having dinner with friends when gunshots first rang out at Schemengees Bar and Grille.

"We all turned around and realized what was happening, we dropped to the ground and that's when I think I was shot in the arm," Zanca told WCVB from her hospital bed.

Zanca dropped to the ground and hid behind a dumpster.

"I was one of the lucky ones, if the bullet had been in either direction, I would not have survived," Zanca said.

Zanca said she used her hand as a makeshift tourniquet as the gunshot wound was "bleeding pretty heavily."

Eight people were killed at the bar Wednesday night, Maine State Police Col. William G. Ross said on Thursday.

Police have since launched a massive manhunt as they search for the suspected gunman, 40-year-old Robert Card.

The restaurant was Card's second target during his alleged shooting rampage.

Card allegedly killed seven people at the Just-in-Time Recreation Center bowling alley in Lewiston before he traveled to the bar.

Survivor of Maine shooting describes losing ‘hero’ sister –killed trying to call 911 — while fleeing gunman

By Allie Griffin
CNN

The sister of one of the 18 people killed in the horrific double mass shootings in Maine Wednesday night described the devastating moment she lost sight of her sister in the chaos that followed the sound of gunshots.

Bobbi Nichols was bowling at Just-In-Time Recreation with her sister, Tricia Asselin, when a man armed with an assault rifle — believed to be Richard Card, who remains at large — stormed the family-friendly bowling alley in Lewiston and began shooting.

Asselin, a part-time employee at the bowling alley, had the night off but was competing as part of a league with her sister. Nichols made it out alive, but Asselin, 53, did not.

“We heard a loud noise and I wasn’t sure what it was until I heard another shot and then I knew,” Nichols told CNN in an emotional interview Thursday night.

Everyone began running out of the building and people were trampling over one another, she said. In the chaos, she lost track of her sister, who was bowling a few lanes over from here.

Police clear out from home they had surrounded during manhunt for Robert Card

By Patrick Reilly

Police have completely cleared out from a residence they had surrounded in Bowdoin, Maine, on Thursday in their extensive manhunt for suspected mass shooter Robert Card.

Card, 40, appears to still be at large more than 24 hours after he shot and killed 18 people in Lewiston on Wednesday night, WMTW's Connor Clement reported from outside of the house.

There was a massive police presence outside of the Meadow Road home, which is tied to Card's family and was his last known location.

At one point, officers announced on a megaphone, "Robert Card, you’re under arrest. We know you’re inside."

However, police later said they were simply doing their "due diligence."

Maine AG vows to 'vigorously prosecute these heinous acts' after mass shooting

By Patrick Reilly

Maine Attorney General Aaron M. Frey asked residents to continue following any shelter-in-place orders and alert law enforcement about any suspicious activity as authorities hunt for suspected gunman Robert Card.

"Our public safety and law enforcement officials are working tirelessly to follow leads and gather information in order to apprehend the suspect, and our collective support in these ways is crucial," Frey said in a statement on Thursday, 24 hours after the mass shooting that left 18 people dead in Lewiston.

The Pine Tree State's top lawyer said he had "every confidence" in the law enforcement agencies leading the investigation and said his office is using all assets available at the local, state and federal level to find the alleged gunman.

"The Office of the Attorney General stands behind this intensive effort and is prepared to vigorously prosecute these heinous acts of violence," Frey said.
