Maybe he worships at the House of Strasburg.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer celebrated the Nationals’ World Series win by wearing the team’s cap on the floor of the House of Representatives — in apparent violation of congressional rules.

The House’s hat ban, which became official in 1837, had an exception authorized this year, but only for members wearing head coverings for religious reasons. The rule states, “During the session of the House, a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner may not wear nonreligious headdress or a hat or remain by the Clerk’s desk during the call of the roll or the counting of ballots.”

Hoyer’s office says he wore the cap for only a moment — albeit amid the very serious impeachment probe debate. But it was enough to make the point that he is one of the region’s most devoted sports fans.

The Maryland congressman lauded the team with remarks from the floor and a tweet that reads, in part, “Today is a joyous day for the Nationals and everyone in the National Capitol region.”

It’s not the first time that Hoyer showed his enthusiasm for local teams on the House floor. He wore a Capitals jersey after the team won the Stanley Cup in 2018.

The Nationals beat the Houston Astros in seven games to win the first World Series in franchise history. The team began as the Montreal Expos in 1969 and moved to Washington in 2005.

Star pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named Series MVP.
