KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney man has been arrested after police say he fled from a Buffalo County courtroom in the midst of his sentencing hearing on a drug conviction.

The Kearney Hub reports that 41-year-old James Cabrera was arrested after running from the district court hearing on Wednesday. He was to be sentenced for a felony conviction of possession of methamphetamine.

Officials say Judge Bill Wright was in the middle of issuing his sentence when Cabrera fled. He was later found and arrested in Shelton and jailed around 10:30 p.m.

His sentencing hearing has been continued until Monday. At that time, court records say, he must show cause for why he shouldn’t be held in contempt of court.
