A man was arrested by the FBI for assaulting a woman on a cruise liner in international waters after chasing her around the ship, authorities said.

The suspect, identified by the FBI as Jeff Smiley III, chased the woman around the Norwegian Cruise Line ship on Nov. 4 then beat her so badly that her jaw and arm were broken, the law enforcement agency said.

The assault, which happened as the cruise liner was heading toward San Juan, Puerto Rico, was captured by surveillance cameras on the ship, authorities said.

Agents from the FBI boarded the ship before it reached San Juan and arrested Smiley after reviewing the footage and interviewing witnesses.

Smiley was turned over to San Juan police and hit with two assault charges.
