A man has been arrested in connection to a series of recent BB gun shootings on a busy Southern California freeway — and could be responsible for more than 100 such incidents over the past month, according to local reports.
Jesse Leal Rodriguez, 34, of Anaheim, was busted Tuesday night after multiple motorists reported their windows were shot out in the area of the 91 Freeway at Tyler Street in Riverside, KTLA reported, citing the California Highway Patrol.
The victims provided information that helped investigators locate Rodriguez and the “suspect vehicle,” according to the report.
He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and held on $750,000 bail, the outlet reported.
More than 100 pellet gun shootings have been reported along the freeway over the past month, from Riverside into Los Angeles County, KABC reported. There were no serious injuries.
Jesse Leal Rodriguez was arrested after a series of calls from motorists whose windows were being shot out in the area of the 91 Freeway at Tyler Street in Riverside, Calif. Onscene.TVThough Rodriguez has only so far been connected to the Tuesday incidents, he is considered a “person of interest” in the others, KTLA reported, citing the highway patrol.
“It has been a variety of vehicles, locations, colors, times of day,” CHP Officer Dan Olivas said. “It is somewhat sporadic.”
Authorities are still probing whether Rodriguez had an accomplice or if copycat incidents were happening.
“The likelihood that it is more than one person — there is definitely a possibility there,” Olivas told KTLA earlier this week.
Another BB gun shooting was reported in the Tustin area after Rodriguez’s arrest, according to KABC.
