DECATUR, Ill. — A 30-year-old man has been arrested after firing shots at his parents following a high-speed chase southwest of Chicago.

Decatur police Sgt. Steve Carroll tells the Herald & Review in Decatur that the incident began about 5 a.m. Friday at the Mount Zion home of the man’s parents.

Carroll says the man chased the couple after they fled in their car and that their vehicles reached speeds of up to 100 mph (161 kph).

The man crashed in Decatur and began shooting. Carroll says some slugs struck the parents’ car. They were not wounded.

The man ran away, but later was arrested. He faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, vehicular hijacking, aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of body armor and driving under the influence.
