A Tennessee man allegedly killed his 76-year-old mother after repeatedly complaining she was “driving him crazy,” authorities said.

John Ralph, 51, was arrested Saturday as he tried to flee the country and head to Amsterdam from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia said.

Ralph faces charges of first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Edith Betty Ralph, whose body was found Saturday at their shared home in Carter County, Tenn.

Authorities said Ralph had previously asked co-workers to help stage photos of him at work in case “something happened to his mother.”

“Ralph lived with his mother and had already made numerous statements to friends and family that his mother was driving him crazy,” authorities said in a statement.

Her body was discovered with severe head trauma and multiple gunshot wounds, officials said.

Investigators said they “quickly” discovered evidence that suggested Ralph was involved in his mother’s killing — including the plane ticket he purchased that evening for Amsterdam, the Johnson City Press reported.

Authorities contacted the US Marshal’s Office to thwart Ralph’s escape that evening from Atlanta.

He is being held on $1 million bond at Clayton County Jail in Georgia as he awaits extradition to Tennessee.
