A New Mexico man took a nap in the back of his girlfriend’s car — and woke up to a strange man driving it down the highway. A high-speed knife fight ensued and the driver was eventually arrested.

Ignacio Baca fell asleep in the back seat of his girlfriend’s 2006 Toyota Corolla with the engine running after dropping her off at work for her night shift at a truck stop on Thursday. By the time Baca woke up, Joseph Allen had taken the car and was driving it east down Interstate 10.

According to the Las Cruces Sun News, Baca “popped up [from the back seat] and asked the man who the hell he was, and proceeded to punch and choke him.”

Allen proceeded to pull the car over and pulled out a knife, slashing Baca in his ribs and arm. Baca grabbed the triple-edged knife from Allen, stabbing him in the hand.

Baca eventually exited the car, called the police and Allen was arrested, charged with aggravated battery, auto theft and false imprisonment.
