An Ohio man on Thursday was trapped up to his chin in a silo filled with wet soybeans for nearly three hours before being rescued by authorities.

The man became trapped in a nearly 3/4 full grain bin at around 4 p.m., said Ross Township Fire Department Chief Steve Miller, local outlet WLWT5 reported. A family member quickly called 911.

People who get stuck in silos can easily be engulfed, agriculture officials said. So the around 50 rescue workers had to place a specialized retaining wall around the victim so he wouldn’t sink further into the soybeans, which are fast-flowing, like quicksand.

Fire crews working to get the man out also sprayed water inside the bin, since the contents could be flammable.

Authorities said the man was conscious and talking throughout the rescue, which ended with him being pulled out of the bin at around 7 p.m.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.
