March will come roaring in like the proverbial lion — dumping as much as 8 inches of snow on New York City on Sunday and Monday, according to AccuWeather.

After a weekend of frigid weather — with averages  15 to 25 degrees below the normal late February high of 45 degrees — a major snowstorm will move in.

Currently, the forecast is for 4 to 8 inches, with flakes at the height of the storm Monday afternoon reaching as much 2 inches an hour.

The power of the storm will depend on two high-pressure systems in the area.

“The challenge with this storm is figuring out where the north-south boundary between rain and snow will set up and migrate to as the storm progresses eastward,” AccuWeather chief meteorologist Elliot Abrams said on the forecaster’s website.

If the high-pressure system to the north prevails and pulls down cold air, snowfall could reach a foot or more.

If the southern system prevails, snow and ice will be balanced out with rain and warm air, with snow accumulation as little as 2 inches.

The long-duration storm is expected to wreak havoc, with “huge disruptions” likely from Chicago to New York City, AccuWeather predicted.
