Even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg isn’t immune from technical difficulties, as his opening remarks at Wednesday’s Big Tech hearings on Capitol Hill were briefly delayed due to struggles connecting.
After statements from Jack Dorsey and Sundar Pichai, respectively the CEOs of Twitter and Google parent company Alphabet, Zuckerberg was on deck.
But Senate Commerce Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) was forced to call a five-minute recess at Facebook’s request.
“Members should be advised at this point that we are unable to make contact with Mr. Mark Zuckerberg,” he said. “We are told by Facebook staff that he is alone and attempting to connect with this hearing.
“I think this is a most, most interesting development.”
But despite the embarrassing snafu, Zuckerberg was able to log on before the five-minute period was up.
“I was able to hear the other opening statements,” he said once logged on. “I was just having a hard time connecting myself.”
