A Massachusetts man is behind bars after authorities found a massive stockpile of weapons inside his home — 47 unlicensed guns, 44 homemade silencers and 35,000 rounds of ammunition, according to new reports.
Jeffrey DustiMiddlesex District Attorney’s OfficePolice were executing a search warrant for a homemade silencer when they turned up the stunning stash of weapons Tuesday at Jeffrey Dusti’s home in Shirley, CBS News reported.
“We don’t know right now, the purpose of why he had them, had so many, or why he was making so many silencers,” said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan at a press conference Thursday.
Ryan added that cops also found a sawed-off shotgun “in plain view” and an AR-15.
Eleven of the weapons were licensed to an unidentified woman. She has not been charged but her license to carry was revoked, Ryan said.
Dusti, 62, was arraigned Thursday and held without bail pending a hearing Nov. 5.
The firearms fanatic also had an outstanding warrant on charges of assault and battery on a person older than 60, witness intimidation and two counts of making annoying phone calls, the Boston Globe reported.
When he arrested at his home on Great Road, Dusti had a loaded revolver in his jacket pocket, the prosecutor said. He did not have a firearms identification card nor a license to carry.
The Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit carried out the search but it’s unclear whether Dusti is connected to a gang. Investigators are examining whether any of the guns were used in a crime.
