McConnell ‘bugged’
WASHINGTON — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky yesterday accused the “left” of bugging his campaign office “Nixonion” style, after a recording surfaced of a private meeting with his staff strategizing against potential Democratic opponent Ashley Judd.
“That’s what the political left does these days,” said McConnell, who requested an FBI investigation.
The campaign insisted the recording wasn’t an inside job.
The surreptitious audio recording, obtained and published by Mother Jones magazine, caught McConnell and aides on Feb. 2 preparing attacks against Judd, including hitting the film star like a “whack-a-mole” for her anti-coal and pro-choice stances, and her struggles with mental illness.
She recently decided not to run.
