Dinning rooms and play areas at McDonald’s restaurants across the country will be closed beginning Tuesday in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

The fast-food giant will continue to serve customers via drive-thrus and deliveries, it said in a statement on Monday.

“To align with increasing regulations throughout the country, effective at the close of business today, McDonald’s USA company-owned restaurants will close seating areas, including the use of self-service beverage bars and kiosks,” the statement said.

The company asked its franchisees across the US to enact the same measures.

It’s announcement follows similar steps taken by other major fast-food chains, including Starbucks, which suspended seating at it’s coffee shops on Sunday.

Several states, including New York, have also ordered restaurants and bars to operate through takeout or deliveries only.
