This elephant likes to be the biggest gal in the room.
Nzhou, a 46-year-old elephant, only runs with buffalo at a nature conservation center in Zimbabwe, Caters News Agency reports.
In a storyline that seems plucked from a children’s book, the gentle giant began thinking she was a buffalo — and was adopted by the herd — after ivory hunters killed her mom when she was a baby.
She lives in Imire Black Rhino and Wildlife Conservation area, where she’s since been dubbed “the matriarch” of the pack.
She “communicates” with the buffalo, protecting calves from aggressive predators, according to the conservation’s website.
“Nzhou the elephant is matriarch to a herd of buffalo, with whom she shares a deep communication and respect,” the website notes.
