First lady Melania Trump appeared in a public service announcement Thursday to stress the importance of wearing face coverings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video filmed outside the White House, Trump held up a cloth face covering as she advised Americans to take precautions to stay safe during the health crisis.

“As the CDC continues to study the spread of the COVID-19, they’re recommending people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain, such as grocery stores and pharmacies,” she said in the Twitter clip.

She added that the face coverings are most effective when also practicing other safety measures, such as social distancing.

“Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing,” she said. “It is another recommended guideline to keep us all safe.”

The White House announced last month that the first lady would take part in a campaign partnering with multiple major media corporations to raise awareness about the deadly virus.
