A member of Hungary’s anti-gay government regime has resigned after being caught at an orgy in the basement of a Belgian gay bar, held in violation of coronavirus precautions.

József Szájer on Sunday resigned his post as a Member of the European Parliament representing Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban’s Fidesz party, Politico’s European news site reported Tuesday.

In a statement, Szájer reportedly acknowledged that he attended the “private party,” and said that he had made a “misstep” that was “strictly personal.”

The Hungarian government for which Szájer worked has recently restricted the rights of the country’s LGBT community.

“It was irresponsible on my part,” he continued in the statement, referring to violating coronavirus regulations against large gatherings. “I am ready to stand for the fine that occurs.”

Police in Brussels on Friday busted up a bash in the basement of a gay bar — which officials have characterized as an orgy — that drew Szájer and 24 other revelers, reportedly including several diplomats.

Drugs were reportedly found at the clandestine gathering, but Szájer in his statement denied indulging.

All of the attendees — most of whom were naked men — were fined for violating the pandemic precautions, reports said.
