One World Trade Center is poised to become the tallest building in New York City within the next couple of days, officials said today.
Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye said contruction is proceding so rapidly it could surpass the Empire State Building’s height as early as Monday, weather permitting.
“One World Trade Center will be the tallest building in Manhattan, eclipsing the Empire State Building,” said Foye at a Crain’s Breakfast forum this morning in Midtown.
When finished, One World Trade Center will be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
Construction started six years ago.
Foye said 55 percent of the building is leased.
