A 10-year-old boy was shot dead and his mother wounded Wednesday night in New Jersey, according to local reports.

Gunfire rang out around 11 p.m. on Ridge Avenue in Asbury Park, killing the boy, police sources told News 12 New Jersey. His mother was injured, but she was expected to survive.

Cops were looking for two possible suspects early Thursday, and the motive remains unclear.

Neighbors told the Asbury Park Press that the child attended Bradley Elementary School and that there is often police activity on the street.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, which is handling the investigation, did not immediately return a call.
