About a hundred residents at 1204 Shakespeare Ave. in The Bronx were forced to leave their homes yesterday after the Fire Department discovered construction debris blocking some of the building’s exits.

“The people that live in the building are like family to me,” said Nelson Ruiz, the superintendent of 30 years. “I feel so bad, Christmas is coming and they have nowhere to go.” Residents could return “possibly by Wednesday,” a Housing Department source said.

Displaced residents have been moved into several hotels around the city.
