BAY SHORE, N.Y. — Police say an 11-year-old boy drowned at a friend’s pool on Long Island after going in without permission.

Suffolk County police say the boy was found at the bottom of the Bay Shore pool at 1 p.m. Thursday. Police say he was pulled out by his friend who called his older brother to help revive him and call 911.

The 11-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detective Sgt. William Lamb said the older brother had instructed the boys not to go in the pool because the parents were not home.

The town safety enforcement commissioner Lawrence O’Leary said the town had no record of a permit for the pool.

A woman who answered the phone at the house said the family did not want to speak.
