An 11-year-old girl desperately needs a bone-marrow donor.

Jeralene Ares has sickle-cell anemia and requires a stem-cell transplant to cure her.

Her best chance for a match is a Latino donor with a similar ethnic background, but Latinos are underrepresented in the bone-marrow registry.

The New York Blood Center is hosting a special blood and bone marrow registration drive in Washington Heights on Saturday, May 16, in search of a possible match for Jeralene.

Jeralene and her family are traveling from Rhode Island to Washington Heights, where she has extended family.

Registering as a possible blood-marrow donor is easy — just a swiping inside of one’s cheek.

The registration Saturday will take place noon to 6 p.m. at 501 West 172nd Street, at Amsterdam Avenue, in the Bloodmobile Bus parked at FDNY EMS Station 13.
