An historic late 19th-century street sign, marking the intersection of Broad and Wall streets near the New York Stock Exchange sold yesterday at auction for $116,500.

The enamel “Broad St.” and “Wall St.” sign — marked with shrapnel from a 1920 Wall Street bombing that killed 38 people — was bought by an unidentified phone bidder, said Christie’s.

The auctioneer had estimated it at $60,000 to $80,000 before the sale. The sign stood in front of the former headquarters of J.P. Morgan & Company.
