A 14-year-old boy was shot while walking back to his school in the Bronx on Monday afternoon, police said.

The teen, who is believed to be an innocent bystander, had just left a deli at about 2:55 p.m. when he was struck in the ankle near the intersection of East 228th Street and White Plains Road, according to cops.

He was attempting to walk back to school when he was struck by gunfire. It does not appear he was the intended target, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

It wasn’t immediately clear what school the student attends, but the Albert Tuitt Educational Campus is two blocks away from the shooting.

The boy left the scene and was later taken privately to a local hospital, according to police.

No arrests were made on Monday.
