An 18-year-old inmate hanged himself in a Rikers Island cell Wednesday, the same day he was scheduled to see a psychiatrist, according to internal jail documents.

Kenan Davis, who had been taken into custody Friday on a parole-violation charge, was found lying on the ground after the incident.

A jails spokeswoman confirmed the death, saying in a statement that an investigation is ongoing and that Correction Commissioner Joe Ponte extends condolences to the family.

Davis’ suicide is the second at Rikers this year. On New Year’s Day, Fabian Cruz, who was supposed to be placed on a suicide watch, hanged himself.
