1st-responder radio net
WASHINGTON — In a bid to make sure that the fatal communications glitches that hobbled 9/11 rescue efforts never happen again, New York Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Peter King yesterday called for a nationwide wireless broadband network exclusively for first responders.
The network would replace a hodgepodge of radio systems that often make it impossible for different police, fire and EMS units to keep in radio contact with each other.
