A man and woman from New York City were arrested on murder charges Wednesday in connection to the mysterious death of a nursing aide whose body was found on the side of a highway in Maine.
Carine Reeves, 37, and Quaneysha Greeley, 19, were nabbed in Queens at around 8 a.m. following a week-long investigation by Maine State Police, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Sally ShawMaine State PoliceFour detectives were sent from the Pine Tree State on Tuesday to pick the pair up after the attorney general’s office authorized the charges, officials said.
Their arrest came just one week after the body of 55-year-old Sally Shaw was discovered alongside Route 193 in Cherryfield, ME.
The mother of three and grandmother of seven was reportedly killed after getting into a car accident sometime before dawn on July 19, cops said.
A black 2017 Chevy Impala, which had been rented from a Bangor agency in Shaw’s name, was found a few miles away with damage to its front end.
Investigators believe the accident and Shaw’s death are directly related.
Greeley, who is from Maine, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday afternoon on a fugitive from justice warrant. She refused to waive extradition and was scheduled to appear in court again on August 24.
Reeves, who is expected to be arraigned on Friday, is said to be a resident of Queens and has been living in Jamaica. He had been wanted by local police for a Feb. 25 incident at an Exxon gas station on Rockaway Blvd — in which he slashed a 36-year-old woman on the side of her face with a sharp object and fled, according to police sources.
For that crime, cops charged Greeley with first and second-degree assault and possession of a weapon.
The victim was said to have suffered a large laceration from her left ear to her left nostril.
It is unclear how Shaw came into contact with Reeves and Greeley — or if they knew each other before the murder. Authorities in Maine have not released any information about why the Big Apple residents were in Cherryfield and have refused to say whether the killing was random.
While an autopsy has been completed on Shaw, police have not shared her cause of death, either.
NYPD officials said Greeley is a former resident of Lewiston, ME., which is more than 140 miles north of Cherryfield.
Shaw’s sister told the Portland television station WCSH that she worked as a nursing aide and recently moved back to Maine from Florida following the death of her husband.
“She was such a good person and loved. I can’t understand why this would happen,” said Susan Shaw. “To think about what may have happened, to think about how long was she there. Was she scared? Was anyone there to help her or was she all by herself? We don’t know any of these questions to be answered.”
