Two U.S. citizens arrested in Romania on charges that they tried to sell drugs and weapons to help the Taliban fight U.S. troops have been brought to New York.

Federal prosecutors announced the extradition Friday of Alwar Pouryan and Oded Orbach in a release.

Authorities had announced the charges against the men in February, when they were arrested in Bucharest.

They said the men were approached by U.S. government witnesses posing as representatives of the Taliban. They said the men thought they were arranging the sale last summer of lethal weapons to members of a dangerous drug organization with terrorism links.

Lawyers for each man did not immediately return phone messages. Five others arrested in Liberia were brought to the United States in February.
