Two people, including one teen boy, drowned in a northern New Jersey lake, officials said Wednesday.

The victims — a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man — were at Mine Hill Beach at Sunset Lake in Morris County around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday when they went into the water and never emerged.

Witnesses soon reported the pair missing to EMS workers who were in the beach parking lot, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Multiple agencies responded, but the men could not immediately be found, prosecutors said.

Authorities conducted an extensive search, which was complicated due to tangled vegetation beneath the surface of the water.

Both bodies were recovered after hours of searching, according to prosecutors.

The victims’ names have not been released pending family notification.
