Firefighters made a sad discovery while fighting a blaze inside a Bronx apartment today.
Twenty unconscious pit bulls were found inside the sixth-floor apartment pad on the Grand Concourse near East 182nd Street, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called to a blaze inside the apartment about 2:45 p.m. It took about 60 firefighters about a half-hour to wrestle it under control.
It is is not clear if it was smoke that caused the dogs to lose consciousness. The animals were still being evaluated at the scene.
No one else was hurt in the blaze, officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
