And they’re off!

More than 52,000 runners from around the world have begun the 49th annual New York City Marathon.

The iconic race kicked off right on time on Sunday when officials fired the gun at 8.30 a.m. — setting off wheelchair participants who start the event.

Competitors were seen desperately trying to keep warm in the chilly 44-degree morning air, covering up in ponchos and garbage bags.

Runners also rushed a Dunkin’ Donuts stand handing out free coffee and bananas before the grueling 26.2-mile race.

The marathon begins by the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Staten Island before winding into Brooklyn through Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Clinton Hill, Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

Runners will then cross the Pulaski Bridge into Queens before crossing into Manhattan, running up First Avenue and into the Bronx before racing down Fifth Avenue to the contest’s Central Park finish line.

Runners hail from 125 countries and all 50 US states — with some participants as old as 70.
