ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A New Jersey state agency has approved an extra $2 million to keep a weekend rail service that carries gamblers between New York City and Atlantic City running for at least two more years.

The money from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority will help subsidize operating costs for the ACES express train service.

In exchange for the new funding, the three casinos that are paying most of the operating costs have agreed to keep it going for at least two more years.

Harrah’s Resort, Caesars Atlantic City and Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa launched the upscale train service in February.

Officials say ridership was good during the summer but has since declined. The current schedule of 18 trips will be reduced to 11 beginning Friday.
