A gunman delivered a haunting message, saying “This is where I do business,” to a group of people in downtown Los Angeles before shooting them Thursday night, the Los Angeles Police Department told The California Post.
The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Sixth Street and San Julian Street, and the search continues for the suspect.
Investigators said a black man walked to the northeast corner of San Julian Street, made the statement, then fired multiple shots at two women and one man.
All three were struck by gunfire.
Open-air drug markets for meth and fentanyl are prevalent, often fueled by violent street gangs.
Violent crimes in the Skid Row reporting districts occur four to six times a day, totaling roughly 30 to 40 per week.
Aggravated assaults frequently occur, often involving weapons like knives or blunt objects. CitizenThe victims were wounded and taken to a hospital in stable condition by paramedics, police said.
The suspect fled northbound on foot.
Two of the victims are believed to be homeless.
Authorities said it is still unclear whether the shooting was gang-related.
Stretching across roughly 50 blocks, Skid Row is one of the nation’s most densely packed homeless zones.
