A violent night in Newark has left three people dead in a nine-hour span — less than a week after 167 cops were laid off due to budgetary restraints.

An unidentified 24-year-old man was stabbed Monday and died at about 9:30 p.m. Early yesterday, Rowland Smith, 33, of Rahway died after being shot Monday night. And another unidentified man was shot dead at around 6:30 a.m.

A suspect in the stabbing has been arrested.
