Three Newark Airport baggage screeners were fired over lax security procedures, but 17 workers who had been targeted for dismissal were merely suspended.

The firings last week came after a Transportation Security Administration probe of lax procedures at the airport.

Three other TSA workers who had not been targeted for firing were also suspended.

Eight workers were fired in June as part of the same probe.
