A 3-year-old Amish boy was injured after falling out of a moving minibus on an upstate New York highway Saturday, state police said.

The boy was part of an Amish group from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, that was traveling south in two minibusses on Interstate 81 in Broome County at about 5 p.m. when he fell out of the first vehicle.

State police said the boy had leaned on an emergency window in the rear of the minibus, which opened and dropped the youngster onto the highway in the town of Kirkwood.

The two vehicles turned around and found the injured boy running along the side of the road crying.

He suffered bumps, cuts, and bruises in the fall but was alert when emergency personnel arrived at the scene. He was treated at a local hospital and released.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
