A man who is wheelchair-bound because Staten Island University Hospital failed to properly treat his bedsores has won a $4.06 million award.

Staten Island Supreme Court was told that the hospital’s “wound specialist” took up to 10 days to check sores on the legs and buttocks of Robert Messina, 63.

“The jury thought it was inexcusable,” said his lawyer, Mitchel Ashley. The hospital said it will appeal.
