A 5-year-old girl was hospitalized over the weekend after she “accidentally tripped and fell” into a fire pit at her New Jersey home, according to officials.
The child suffered second-and third-degree burns to her face and arms, with paramedics airlifting her to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston shortly before 4:30 p.m Saturday, NorthJersey.com reports.
Authorities in Demarest, where the girl is from, told the outlet that she was treated at the scene and “stabilized” before being transported to the hospital’s burn center. Police had to move her to a nearby field in order for the EMS helicopter to reach her.
There was no immediate word on the child’s condition early Monday.
