A 5-year-old girl died in New Jersey after suffering flu-like symptoms, school officials said.
The superintendent of schools in North Bergen expressed condolences to the family in a statement that emphasized the school district was doing its best to prevent the spreading of the virus.
“Today is a sad day in the North Bergen School District as we have lost one of our own,” read the statement from George Solter.
“We are also urging parents to not send their kids to school if they are suffering from flu-like symptoms and to get them medical assistance if they are.”
The girl was identified as a kindergarten student at the Lincoln School in North Bergen.
