Twenty-five people — including the son of reputed Bonanno crime boss “Vinny Gorgeous” Basciano — were rounded up yesterday as the feds busted an alleged $50 million illegal sports-gambling business.
The ring spanned five states, and accepted wagers on horse-racing, professional and college baseball, hockey, football and basketball, authorities said.
Gamblers placed bets over the phone and on at least four Web sites.
The arrests were announced in a 250-page indictment following an 18-month undercover probe, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
The first bet was placed in Queens, sources said.
The sting netted Basciano’s son, Vincent Jr., along with the manager of a legal Nevada sports book and three owners of gambling Web site Pinnacle Sports.
More than $7.6 million in cash and gambling chips were seized during the arrests.
The NYPD led the investigation, which involved multiple state, municipal and federal law-enforcement agencies.
