A man died Thursday morning when he came into contact with the third rail inside a Lower East Side train station, police said.

The 56-year-old, who was possibly homeless, was walking in tunnels approximately 100 feet away from the northbound Delancey Street F train station around 1:45 a.m. when he was electrocuted by the more than 600-volt current that flows through third rails to power trains, cops said.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the victim, who was from Bushwick, Brooklyn, was on the tracks and in the tunnel at the time.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
